Strong Sense of Self: Curriculum Focus Term 1

Care for Kindies is very proud of our comprehensive School Readiness Curriculum. The curriculum incorporates learning for all age groups from 6 weeks of age all the way up to those preparing for the transition to big school!

By the time children start kindergarten, we hope to instill a lifelong love of learning in each of them, to serve them well through their many years of formal education and beyond.

However, the school transition is not only about developing cognitive skills, so we also place a strong focus on being socially, emotionally and physically ready.

The focus for the first term each year is: Strong Sense of Self. This provides opportunities to focus on Self Esteem, Self -Sufficiency and Self Identification, recognition of belongings, name and surname, likes and dislikes.

Here are the outcomes by age group for our focus this term:

6 weeks - 2 years old

• Able to settle with ease and build secure attachments
• Discover and explore some connections amongst people and other children
• Are becoming curious and enthusiastic participants in their learning

2-3 years old

• Communicate theirs needs for comfort and assistance
• Openly express their feelings and ideas
• Initiate interactions and conversations with others
• Explore different identities and points of view in dramatic play

3-4 years old

• Initiate and join in play
• Explores aspects of identity through play
• Take considered risk in their decision-making and cope with the unexpected
• Recognise their individual achievements
• Begin sound, number and letter recognition through play and activities

4-5  years old 

• Initiate and join in play
• Explores aspects of identity through play
• Take considered risk in their decision-making and cope with the unexpected
• Recognise their individual achievements
• Begin sound, number and letter recognition through the Project Approach
