Keeping the children busy over the Easter break

Keeping the children busy over the Easter break

The year is absolutely flying by and somehow we have managed to get all the way to April in the blink of an eye. As we approach the Easter break, a lot of parents (like ourselves) look forward to having some extra time on our hands and being able to take a break from our busy routines.

For the children too, they also have a break from the patterns and cycles that they are used to. For some children, they find it very easy to adapt to some extra time at home and find lots of activities to amuse themselves with.

Of course, there are also some children who find they are bored or not sure what to do during this time away from their usual care and activities. Here are some wonderful activities that we recommend for keeping those munchkins busy and stimulated over the break.

CRAFT ACTIVITIES

At Care for Kindies we are big on making enjoyable and enriching activities from the simple things in life. There are plenty of free colouring-in sheets online or why not visit our Facebook pages to see the recent craft ideas we shared. One of our favourite ideas online was the bunnies made out of toilet paper rolls… talk about up-cycling!

VISIT THE EASTER SHOW

The iconic Sydney Royal Easter Show presents Australian agriculture and rural life for two weeks at Sydney Olympic Park. You can visit the wood chopping, see lots of farm animals, visit the food halls and marvel at Australia’s best produce. Of course there are also showbags and rides which the children will ask to visit too!

PLANT SOME SEEDS

At each of our centres we focus on a special “learning topic”. At our Belmore centre, they have been taking full advantage of the cooler Autumn weather to get outdoors and plants some yummy vegetables and flowers in the garden. The children have enjoyed helping Miss Natalie to plant flower seeds into our hanging baskets and garden gumboots. The children have found this experience so intriguing and each day the children eagerly venture outdoors to check and water their plants wanting for them to sprout. Why not plant some seeds in a garden patch or in a special pot? The children will enrich their knowledge by learning about different plants and vegetables that grow in soil and the best seasons for them to be grown in.

TAKE A FERRY RIDE

We live in such an iconic harbour city so it is easy to hop onto a ferry and visit the dugongs at the SEA LIFE Aquarium in Darling Harbour or hop across the other side of the sparkling harbour to see the range of wildlife at Taronga Zoo.

EASTER EGG HUNT

You can make Easter a special occasion with an Easter egg hunt at home by starting with some special craft so the children can put the eggs into their handmade basket. If you want to upgrade to an Easter egg extravanganza, check out the Centennial Parklands Egg Hunt. They are encouraging children to get outdoors and stay active with their egg hunt events. This event is known as a popular family favourite which you can book tickets online.

We hope you enjoyed a few of these fun family activity ideas to keep the children busy during the Easter break. Old fashion fun with craft and colouring in is often just as rewarding a big visit across the harbour. We look forward to hearing all about the fun activities the children got up to over the Easter break when our centres reopen.

From all of our team at Care for Kindies, we wish you a safe and relaxing break.
