Interview with Kris – Child Protection

Miss Kris and Miss Tiffany, hugging two very happy children in the classroom at Care for Kindies.

An Interview with Kris - Educational Leader and 2IC at Care for Kindies, Belfield: Keeping Children Safe at Day Care

For more than 21 years, Kris has dedicated her heart and career to one mission: keeping children safe. At Care for Kindies, child protection is not simply a requirement. It is the foundation of everything we do. We spoke with Kris about why child safety continues to inspire her, and how it shapes the environments where children learn, grow, and thrive.

Why is child protection so important to you?

Kris:
“Every child deserves to feel safe, valued, and heard. That belief has guided me throughout my career. When children feel secure, they build confidence, curiosity, and a strong sense of belonging. Safety is not only about protection. It is about creating the conditions where children feel free to explore, express themselves, and develop trust in the world around them.”

How do you see safety within the bigger picture of education?

Kris:
“Safety and learning are deeply connected. When children feel emotionally and physically safe, they can engage fully, take positive risks, and build meaningful relationships. Child protection represents respect, advocacy, and responsibility. It is about ensuring children know their voices matter and that their wellbeing is always prioritised.”

What keeps you motivated after more than two decades in this field?

Kris:
“My commitment has always come from a genuine desire to make a difference. Each child and each family brings something unique, and knowing that our work helps children feel secure and supported continues to inspire me. Keeping children safe at day care and supporting their happiness and wellbeing is both a privilege and a responsibility I value deeply.”

How do you and your team put this into practice every day?

Kris:
“Our educators are trained in child protection, and we follow the NSW Child Safe Standards. Beyond compliance, we foster a culture where children’s rights, voices, and wellbeing are central to everything we do. We listen carefully, collaborate closely with families, and remain attentive to each child’s needs. Child protection is not simply a procedure. It is embedded in our relationships, our environment, and our daily practice.”

Together, we keep children safe

At Care for Kindies, child protection is more than a policy. It is a shared commitment between educators and families, and a promise to every child in our care. Guided by experienced leaders and educators like Kris, we remain dedicated to creating environments where children feel secure, respected, and supported to thrive.

If you would like to meet Kris and the team at either of our Belfield centres, please book a tour. Alternatively, you can contact us with any questions or comments and we'll get back to you.
